CHILD SAFETY
Notice to prospective parish volunteers or workers
Dear prospective volunteer,
We thank you for your interest in serving in the parish.
All Saints’ East St Kilda is committed to Child Safety.
All clergy, all lay staff and all volunteers (in any capacity) need to read and sign the Diocesan Code of Conduct and complete Level 1 Child Safety training.
There are also additional requirements depending on your parish role, as set out below in table form.
You are in the yellow column if you are involved in a child related activity (e.g. All Saints’ Choir, serving, St Hildegard Singers, camps, Classic Kids). There are 5 Steps if you are in the yellow column.
You are in the purple column if you are involved in an activity which is not directly related to children (e.g. reading at mass, cleaning, morning tea, gardening, All Saints’ Singers (all over 18), lawn mowing). If you are in the purple column there are only 2 Steps, you need only complete, Step 3 (Level 1 Training [and, if you are a Leader, Level 3 Training]) and Step 4.

Step 2: Make sure you have a Police Check and you show ID documents to Child Safety Officer Edwina Kabengele, Mark Thawley, or All Saints’ parish priest Father René.
The parish is bearing the cost of police checks.
The parish uses an independent organisation called CrimCheck to process applications.
The link to the self-service portal is: https://www.crimcheck.org.au/check/AllSaintsEastStKilda
Once your details have been submitted, you need to show ID documents to Katherine Fullarton, Mark Thawley, or Father René,
A total of 4 documents is required to verify ID. It's like opening a bank account.
At least one document must have a photograph.
These are listed in full on the CrimCheck site and are summarised here.
1. One Commencement document
A full Australian birth certificate, a current Australian passport, or a foreign passport with a valid Australian visa.
2. One Primary document
A current Australian driver’s license or learner’s permit, an Australian marriage certificate, a current foreign passport with a valid entry
stamp or visa, a current photo identity card issued by an Australian government agency
3. Two Secondary documents
Examples are Medicare card, bank card, credit card, student photo ID

Step 3: Do the Anglican Diocese Training, Levels 1 (everyone) and 2 (if you are in a child related activity). This is the main link with information about Training: https://www.melbourneanglican.org.au/governance/professional-standards/safe-ministry-training/
It has links for Training Level 1, Training Level 2, and Training Level 3.
Levels 1 and 2 each takes 2 hours or less. We can reimburse the cost (of $20 and $15.00) if desired. Just ask Mark Thawley or Father René. You only need Level 3 Training if you are a Leader. Once you’ve done the training you will be given a certificate. Please send it by email to [email protected] and cc the All Saints child safety officer at [email protected]

Step 4: Read the Code of Conduct for Child Safety, and sign the Acknowledgement.
The Anglican Diocese Code of Conduct is below as a PDF: ADOM-Code-of-Conduct-for-Child-Safety-and-Wellbeing-2023.pdf
You can also obtain a copy from the Parish Office. You must read it.
Then you must sign the “Acknowledgement” on the last page of the Code.
Then you need to give, or send the signed page in a PDF or a photo, to our parish office at [email protected] as well as the All Saints’ Child Safety Officer at [email protected]

Step 5: Apply for “Clearance”
Fill in the Clearance application form. The easiest way to obtain a copy of this is to ask Mark Thawley in the Parish Office who can email you a copy or give you a hard copy. Once you have filled in the Application for Clearance you then send it to Kooyoora Ltd at [email protected] or by mail to: Kooyoora Ltd, PO Box 329, Canterbury VIC 3126.
You need to fill in this application because lay people in the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne who hold certain roles are required to hold a "Clearance" as prescribed by Victorian law. The Diocese has engaged the services of Kooyoora (an independent organisation) to process clearance applications and to issue certificates.
