An open door to community connection this weekend

Anglican churches across Melbourne will open their doors this weekend (27-28 July) to connect with their neighbourhoods and show people that churches can be welcoming places.
They will do so through Open House Melbourne’s The Weekend, which aims to showcase the city’s architectural and cultural heritage.
The 2024 theme is “RE/DISCOVER your City,” which encourages people to seek out new places and reconnect with old favourites.
The churches also hope to give their visitors a sense of their artistic, historical, and community contributions.
All Saints’ St Kilda vicar the Reverend René Knaap said participating in The Weekend was a great way to connect with community members
He said visitors might be stepping into a church for the first time.
Volunteer parishioners would create a welcoming atmosphere by greeting people and lead them through the space during the open times.
Fr René said he hoped visitors got a sense of the wonder of the mystery of faith through the architecture and art on display.
“[Church buildings] can communicate the faith in a way that oftentimes our words don’t manage, and they communicate our presence to the wider community,” he said.

All Saints’, East St Kilda, is a living, worshipping community gathered in an outstandingly beautiful Nineteenth Century church building and known for its traditional worship and teaching and its fine liturgy and music. All Saints is also the church of the Prayer Book Society of Victoria.
The church is at 2 Chapel Street, East St Kilda, 3182, just off the intersection with Dandenong Road. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join parishioners for refreshments in the Parish Centre after services.
All Saints has three choirs: the All Saints' Choir, which is a traditional choir of men and boys which sings mainly at the 10.00am High Mass on Sundays during school term time; the All Saints' Singers, a mixed choir of girls, women and men which sings mainly at the 5.00pm Evensong on the first Sunday of each month and at certain special services; and the Saint Hildegard Singers, which is intended for girls and young women aged approximately 7 to 20 years old. We look forward to seeing of all of these choirs flourish and grow!
